Which pharmacy uni is best for BTEC DDD?

Hi! I'm predicted DDD in BTEC Applied Science and considering pharmacy at Leicester, Bath, Reading, Plymouth (Bath), and Keele. I noticed some require A level Chemistry but I don't have it. Which would you recommend and why? 😊

You should only apply to unis where you meet the entry requirements so you need to exclude those that require A level chemistry (Bath and Plymouth). Your predicted grades are also one grade below Leicester's requirement. It doesn't matter where you study pharmacy as they are kept to the same standard through accreditation by the GPC, and your future employers won't care where you studied. So search again for more options that accept your BTEC at DDD.

Brighton, Liverpool, Manchester and many other Unis also require A level Chem.

Be aware that Unis who will accept BTEC without A level Chem will usually require specific Chemistry units within the BTEC, and a specific GCSE Maths grade - always check before you apply.

Hi there, great to hear you are considering Pharmacy for your degree 😊

The MPharm (Hons) course at Plymouth (taught jointly with Bath University) currently requires Chemistry and one other science or maths subject at A-Levels (current entry requirements are here on the course page) and unfortunately the site says that 'You must be studying A level Chemistry alongside your BTEC qualifications - we cannot accept a BTEC Diploma or Extended Certificate in Applied Science in place of A level Chemistry for this course.'

However, it's always worth contacting the admissions teams at different universities to find out alternative pathways of entry and if they could consider your BTEC in certain circumstances, or whether they have options for 'foundation' degrees.

Best of luck for your applications 🤞

Thanks for replying. I have seen on the UCAS applications for the course at Plymouth, i can do it with a foundation year. It is definitely one of my top choices
Hi there.

It's great to see that you're considering Bath as one of your options.

Here is the link to our pharmacy entry requirements.

Unfortunately to be considered at Bath, you must be studying A-level chemistry alongside your BTEC.

If you have any further questions about this feel free to message "[email protected]" for more information. I hope this helps

All the best!

Hi there @nooryyy.m ,

It is great that you are considering Reading as one of your options! 🙂

If you would like to speak to one of our current Pharmacy students, you can do so here via our Chat to our Students feature! This is a great way to ask any questions specifically about the course and see how other students have found their degree at Reading!

Although I have not studied Pharmacy, I really recommend the University of Reading due to its wonderful green campus and facilities! There are so many great ways to make friends too with loads of great societies!

Do let us know if you have any other questions - we are happy to help!

All the best,
Millie 🙂
