Nursing apprenticeship

I have been looking for apprenticeships near hertfordshire but havent been able to find a nursing associate or trainee nurse degree which i feel would be a straightforward route to take. I recently found one in Lincoln and was wondering if anyone has an idea on how studying nursing in lincoln university is like? Is it affordable too? I don't really care for nightlife as I hardly like to go out, the important thing is the university, the course itself and the environment.

If you apply for an apprenticeship, it is the employer (the NHS) that decides where you study the academic part of the course. The employer will have links with a uni, and you have to apply to the employer (not the uni) for the apprenticeship.

The other option to train to be a nurse is a study a three-year degree at uni. The NHS course finder (link below) can help you find courses in specific areas. Nursing degrees are approved by the NMC and as a result will meet the standards required by the NMC. Other options you can consider closer to Herts - Buckinghamshire New, Oxford Brookes, Northampton, Bedfordshire, Middlesex, etc.

If you're considering Lincoln, focus on whether the program structure, support system, and placement opportunities align with your goals—cost and nightlife matter less than choosing a university where you’ll feel supported and confident in your training.
Hello!

If you're still thinking about staying local, at Bedfordshire we do offer a Nursing Associate Apprenticeship but, as @normaw says, you will need to be employed in a health or care role and to arrange your enrolment with your employer. We also offer a range of undergraduate Nursing courses that are approved in partnership with the NMC. Plus, you'll be spending up to 50% of your time in practice with local healthcare providers, so you'll still be developing your workplace skills.

Good luck with your search!

Hello! Thank you jack. I will look into it as Bedfordshire is one of my preferred places to study and work.
Also I am not working in a health and care role but I do volunteer at a hospital. I have for a year now. Does that still count ? I heard ill need to have worked at the NHS to get an apprenticeship there but does volunteering at a NHS hospital count?

Hello, I believe volunteering especially for the duration you have done it for is substantial.

Most nurcing degree apprenticeships seem to be with internal applicants that are allready working at the hospital as a HCA. Cambridge used to be well known for having lots, but I don't know if they still do.

They are seen more as a way to retain HCA then as a way to create the next generation of nurses.
