Yr 11 lock in 😮*💨gyg

I am a GCSE student with many many aspirations, looking to pursue medicine or biochemistry at major universities such as Imperial, King's, and UCL

My GCSE's and what I am predicted:
Maths - 9
Biology - 9
Chemistry - 9
Physics - 9/8 (very iffy grade right now)
French - 8
English Lit - 7
English Lang - 8
Geography - 8
History - 8

Achieved early: Spanish higher - 9

What I want to do for A levels: Biology, Chemistry, Maths/Psychology, EPQ or Core Maths

Hobbies - Bouldering, Army Cadets, Tennis, Swimming
I do not possess any prefect roles at school
Completed Bronze DofE

My main issues:
Sleep: I have a very big problem with sleep. My sleep hygiene is terrible, and has been for 2-3 years. I procrastinate a lot, and generally get a maximum of 5-6 hrs of sleep a night, often 4 if have a bit more homework, but mainly the issue is procrastination. This is not insomnia, it is my own doing.
Time management: really it's the same thing as above. I cannot lock in for the life of me. I'm hoping to get time to revise, because I'm behind on some things.
I'm literally working off my bare minimum right now, and some nights I lie in bed thinking about my life choices. I need to lock in, and I'm hoping that posting my progress here, will give me the motivation I need, as well as advice.

ANY ADVICE YOU HAVE, PUT IT DOWN HERE

hi!! welcome to gyg, i'm jay, in y12, studying maths, fm, physics and psychology for a levels
you have amazing ambitious goals!! and your predicted gcse grades are wonderful, congratulations!!

my advice would be setting a specific time that you stop doing work and go relax or sleep. mine is 9pm, whatever day, when it reaches that time, GO TO SLEEP. i had the same problem last year of a lot of procrastination of sleep and revision, and a lot of people are in the same boat as you! take regular breaks, stay hydrated, don't forget to take it easy, especially as we're a bit early in the year, and do things you love <3

hope this helps! have a great evening, so excited to see your progress
jay

help im in yr 11 and i can totally relate. i promise to tell u to study like every week and make sure u improve but i lowk need help too.
predicted grades:
math - 9
bio - 9
physics - 9
chemistry - 9/8
spanish - 8
rs - 7
geography - 7
latin - 6
englishes - 6

so yeah i really need to focus on my humanities. ur sleep habits sound rough but i also totally relate, im like an ultimate procrastinator, even with sleep which i dont even understand. recently ive been feeling so burnt out as i spent the summer locking in on sciences and math. i'd say my biggest advice would be to have a document or calender( a really nice one which u take everywhere w u) which you update like everytime you get a new assignment or test and stay just ultra organised, its like the second best thing you can do after not procrastinating which is just too hard. as someone who is so so busy i rely on planning. ive basically got like all the tasks im going to complete next week and on which days and approximate times. good luck locking in!!

p.s i have my spanish speaking mock on tue 2nd december and im so scared. our teacher gives us like 60 questions which i have already written 6 line answers to each one, but i have to know all of them by heart by tue. any advice would be amazing! pls send help

Hello Mara! Wow your grades are pretty much identical to mine 😲 basically in the same boat! Yes, I should definitely set up a schedule, and stop procrastinating. I think pretty much everyone doing gyg is a procrastinator to some extent! 😁 HERE'S MY ADVICE FOR SPANISH

I didn't prepare for the exam tbh 😕 couldn't be bothered, but again, I have been doing private lessons for 8 years. Because I didn't prepare, I'm instead going to use what I did in French to help you becuase we did a little mock for speaking and I got 24/25.
I did not memorise any of the questions 😁 i didn't even write answers for them, and I did for some. The main thing to do, is remember the key points for each question. You don't necessarily have to remember exactly what you said, because if you forget even one word, you're going to not know what to do and freeze up. REMEBER THE KEY POINTs. Who's my favourite celebrity? Ryan Reynolds. Why? He's the best actor in the world and he has a good sense of humour. If I had the choice, I would meet him and talk to him. BAM. Perfect answer. Next question. What are your plans for the future in terms of studies? In the future, I want to go to university because I believe that it will be a great experience and will give me a chance to improve my skills in my favourite subject, _____. BAM another perfect answer. Use a variety of tenses, and CORRECTLY. Make sure you also answer the question with the question: What is your favourite food? My favourite food is ___. Also add opinion, justification, variety of tenses, and IDIOMS. It helps when you add idioms as it shows your cultural understanding.
ALSO CULTURAL UDERSTANDING is important. It strengthens your marks, and shows your knowledge of the subject. You can talk about visiting the Sagrada Familia, or seeing the Concha beach of San Sebastian and eating 'tapas' (tapearse).
NEVER SPEAK ENGLISH DURING THE EXAM. NOT EVEN TO SAY SORRY ABOUT MAKING A MISTAKE. This is a HUGE no no. If you want to say 'sorry, can you repeat that?', you say 'Lo siento, puedes repetirlo por favor?' or 'perdon, puedes decirlo otra vez por favor?'. NOT ENGLISH
Do not worry about having to ask again for the examiner to repeat the question. Just say it in Spanish, and they will gladly say it back to you.
Again, memorise all your key points, and all the things you want to talk about specifically. Memorise some useful complex phrases/sentences that you will use here and there. They can be single use, or not, and you can make them have a lot of vocabulary that will ensure you get the marks.
And always, ALWAYS, make your sentences comprehensible. If the examiner doesn't understand anything, then you get no marks.

Hi!
I’m in Year 12 and just did my GCSEs a couple of months ago. I also want to do Medicine, and I do Biology, Chemistry, Psychology, History, and EPQ for A-level. Your predicted grades are amazing, and you should be very proud of yourself for doing so well.
Funnily enough, I also go to Army Cadets, but I only started out in Year 12. It’s good to see that you’re so proactive.
In terms of sleep, I had the same problem in Year 11 and even still now, but what I do is set a very strict rule for myself. Once the clock hits 9:30, I drop everything and get ready for the night, even if I have homework. This is because I like sleeping early and then waking up early, even on a school day, as I’m most productive in the mornings.
In terms of GCSE revision, don’t worry too much about procrastination. I also procrastinated a lot, but once the pressure hit, I started to work harder. Even one hour of work a day for GCSEs is very good, as some people in my year didn’t even start revising until the actual GCSE season.
I wish you the best of luck, and I’m sure you will do fine. Please ask me more questions if needed. Good luck! 🍀✨
