Can I retake a BTEC?

Hi, I’m 27 years old and when I was 18 I passed my BTEC level 3 health and social care extended diploma. I got a PPP which didn’t really matter to me at the time as I wasn’t interested in using the qualification.

I’ve been working in retail for 7 years now, got promoted to shift manager a year ago but just not enjoying the job anymore and really want to go to university to become a nurse, something that has been in the back of my mind as a career path for a couple of years. Does anyone have any advice on what to do regarding my BTEC? Whether I can just redo it or what my next steps should be? My school where I did it closed down back in 2017, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Honestly given the time that's passed since you originally did the qualification, I would instead recommend focusing on looking at doing a new qualification to prepare for the course directly. For example, maybe look to see what Access to HE couses are available near you that are aligned with a nursing degree - these will also usually be a shorter and more intensive course with typically dedicated support for adult learners returning to study, and also you may be eligible for funding through an Advanced Learner Loan for the tuition costs (and if you subsequently complete a degree after having an ALL funded Access course, the ALL is written off!).
