Any tips for first-year students looking for a room?

Check all-inclusive places so you don’t stress about bills. Look near campus areas and compare a few shared accommodations. Verta Suites is worth checking if you want a modern place without paying halls prices.

Hi there,

I thought I could add my tips for finding accommodation here too!

Have a look on your uni website as they often have quite a good section on here where you can see every accommodation that they own/rent out to students and they usually have quite good information on how long it takes to get to campus and lots of pictures. Some have walk through videos too which are helpful.

Look on websites such as this, or Student Crowd as they often have threads of accommodations where you can see what other students think about the accommodation and what it is like. Student Crowd has reviews of the halls too so you can see opinions here too.

Have a look on social media as sometimes the accommodation will have an instagram or TikTok page where you can see what it looks like and if they put any events on or anything else like this.

If you can, talk to current students about where they stayed and if they liked it. Sometimes universities will be on The Ambassador Platform where you can chat to current students and see where they stayed and what they recommend.

Go to open days and see if you can have a look around any accommodation options as it is good to have a look around and see what they are like!

I hope some of this helps!
