Is my Uni course compatable with my Alevels?

I study Maths, Physics, Psychology. Can I do a degree in mechanical engineering with these?

Yeah of course you can, you only need maths for some unis really but the fact you doing physics too is really good and gives you more options for universities to apply to. Just make sure you lock in and get an amazing grade in them both they are hard.

Yes maths & physics are the essentials / prerequisite materials, generally further mathematics is great preparation as well but not required.

As above, Maths is often more important than Physics :
Mechanical Engineering BEng - University of Birmingham - Maths is the only essential subject
BEng Mechanical Engineering | Study at Bristol | University of Bristol - Maths plus one of Physics, Chemistry, Further Mathematics, Computer Science, or Electronics
BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering | University of Salford - Maths and one of Physics, Chemistry, Electronics, Design Technology, Computer Science, Statistics
Etc etc.

Hey @chillies_ ,

Absolutely - those are great subject areas for Mechanical Engineering at University. As mentioned already in this thread, you'll find some universities ask for either Maths or Physics, but some might ask for both, so in either way you're covered! We ask for one of them, but by doing both you might find the transition into university and into certain topics easier, as you'll have a broader knowledge base to build on.

I'd say its definitely worth taking a look at what's taught within different Mech Eng degrees (as the content can differ between universities) and also thinking about whether you'd be interested in doing a degree with an integrated Masters - we offer a standard 3 year BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering degree and a four year MEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering degree, so you might find you have more choice out there than you realise!

Good luck with your choices - if you have any Mech Eng queries let me know!

Hey there, Yes, you can apply for Mechanical Engineering at LSBU with Maths, Physics and Psychology. In fact, Maths and Physics are the key subjects we look for because they give you the foundation you need for the engineering content on the course. Psychology won’t affect your application at all and it just shows you have a good range of skills.

At LSBU, Mechanical Engineering focuses on real world problem solving, design, materials, thermodynamics and hands on lab work, so having strong Maths and Physics puts you in a good position to succeed. Lots of our students come in with a mix of A levels, as long as the core ones are there. If you enjoy how things work, problem solving and applying maths in a practical way, it could be a really good fit for you.

You’re always welcome to explore LSBU further. We have a virtual open day on 9th December from 12:30 to 1:30 pm or you can book a campus tour https://www.lsbu.ac.uk/study/study-at-lsbu/open-days/campus-tours to get a proper feel for our spaces. You can also chat with our current students on Unibuddy https://www.lsbu.ac.uk/student-life/chat to get an insight into the courses you’re curious about.
