Second degree loan for psychology

Hi, I’ve already got a BA but wish to go back to uni as a mature student and study BSc Psychology. It seems this subject is on the list of subjects that are exempt from the ELQ rules about getting a second loan but, from what I can tell, only if studied part-time. So far I’ve provisionally worked out that Birkbeck, South Bank and Met seem to have specific info on this and may be good contenders for me, but I wanted to make sure I’m not missing the opportunity to go to other unis. I’m in Essex so mainly looking at London or Essex based unis and I wish to study in person, not online. I’m also disabled and think I’ll qualify for DSA, one uni states that people on DSA are exempt from the ELQ rules anyway, but I can’t tell if that’s just for the exempt subjects and/or whether it’s still only for the part-time option. I’d much rather study full-time so I just wanted to do further research before consigning myself solely to part-time options. I have emailed the unis above and some others to try and get further info but they’re quite slow in getting back to me. I want to go to an open day on weds but it would be a waste of my time and money if it turns out I couldn’t apply there anyway. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Kat-1980,

Psychology is an exception to previous study and equal level qualification rules if it is a part time course only, therefore you would be eligible to receive support for a eligible part time course. You mentioned that a University advised that if you have a disability, you would be exempt from ELQ rules however, that is not the case with SFE support, they may be referring to their own eligibility guidelines for their bursaries and scholarships etc.

Thanks, Clare
