Veterinary medicine

Hi I need some advice
I’ve got an offer for vet nursing at Bristol .I applied for gateway vet medicine at rvc , Bristol and Nottingham and vet nursing at rvc . I got rejected from Nottingham and I really don’t want to apply for vet nursing at rvc anymore and nursing was just supposed to be a backup choice. Is there a way I can withdraw my choices and replace them for another school or am I cooked I wanted 5 offers 😀

Not sure on your question but vet med is very very competitive as I'm sure you know, so getting 5 offers would be quite an achievement. Id say don't be discouraged

I am pretty sure you cannot withdraw one to give yourself another shot at it as they say you can do four applications for vet med to keep it fair. It's really not the end of the world though! It is very rare to get four vet offers. To be honest RVC will likely not consider someone for vet nursing if they know you see this as just your backup (they want people who really want to do vet nursing itself!). It isn't impossible to get both, but they pick up quickly that your heart isn't in it 🙂

Firstly, if you want to do vet med, getting 5 offers shouldn’t be your goal as it is very rare and honestly just doesn’t really matter, if you get to vet school that’s what matters. I am currently a first year at rvc and I got 2/4 vet med offers, it does not mean I have an advantage to anyone who didn’t get any offers initially but then got one through a waiting list, nor at a disadvantage with respects to someone that got more offers than me. Secondly, vet nursing shouldn’t be a back up for vet med, it’s a very different career, I suggest you do more research to find out what would fit you best if it’s something you are unsure of. While many people do vet med as a second degree, it isn’t recommended and should be considered as the very last resort as it is a very expensive, long and challenging path.
As it is past the 15th of october deadline you cannot apply for any other vet courses, if you wanted to change your vet nursing application to a different (non early deadline) degree you would be able to do this as long as it’s within the 14 day window that ucas gives you for changing courses.
Good luck with your application journey, i’m happy to answer any other questions.

Hi,

As mentioned above, applicants are usually advised to apply to a maximum of four veterinary medicine schools to keep the process fair. Because of this, it’s generally not possible to withdraw one choice in order to add another. It’s also worth remembering that it’s very rare to receive offers from all four, so not having one isn’t something to worry about.

Thanks for the advice . I done the rvc summer school and I think I’m guaranteed an interview; do you have any tips on how to prepare as I don’t really know where to start and feel like my answers to simple questions will be too basic

If your answers are “basic” then you’re not approaching the question appropriately as your responses should be unique to your experiences.
RVC assesses a different skill at every station, your job is to show these skills through your responses where you should always include your own experiences (both work experience and non-vetty experiences) AND how it relates to the veterinary career itself. You just need to show them you know what skills are required and what you have done to obtain them/what you are currently doing to improve upon them. Get your teachers/parents or anyone willing to ask you a few questions to help you practice answering them on the spot and encourage them to ask you follow up questions to simulate the interview as much as you can
