Questions ab Cambridg MPhil in Translating Medical Device & Advanced Therapy Research

Hey everyone, I’m looking into this MPhil at Cambridge, and I’m trying to understand more concretely what the research project component looks like. I’m very interested in this program because I want to help develop medical devices or advanced therapies (planning on attending medical school after this), but I haven’t been able to find much information on past student projects.

Some specific questions I have:

1. What kinds of research projects have previous MPhil students done? Are they more lab based device prototyping?

2. How much hands‑on development is involved? Do students build prototype devices, or is it more about the planning, testing design, and translation process?

3. Is the coursework strictly about translating research and managing of the device development? Are there are any science or STEM courses involved?

According to the website https://cambridgebrc.nihr.ac.uk/our-research/themes/devices-and-advanced-therapies/mphil-in-translating-devices-and-advanced-therapies-research/, this course was first offered in October, so the inaugural cohort is still in progress. The above link answers some questions, but the best way to get your answer is probably to contact the department directly or reach out to some current students on LinkedIn.
