I'm discombobulated, please help

I know that I want a career in medicine. Sweet. Choosing Chem and Bio for A-levels. Also very sweet. Choosing Math. AMAZING!!!! Now here's the problem..... I'm interested in Further Maths and Physics but I don't know which one to choose or if I should choose one anyway. Can any Ex-student help me please??

For Medicine, you only need 3 A levels. There is no advantage in taking any extra subjects - Unis will just ignore your weakest grade. And, because of the extra time, energy and stress involved, you would be risking all of your grades. Remember, AAA will always look better than ABBB - and that could cost you a place for Medicine.

Not an ex student but I wouldn't want to be balancing 4 A levels with UCAT prep, wider reading, interview prep ect. This is hard enough with 3!
If you are interested in physics and further maths you can always research them in your spare time

No I didn’t but I thought u meant if u had the choice to choose between those two I’d say with FM. But tbh 3 A Levels is enough as it is so I would discourage doing 4.

4 A-levels won’t help you get into medical schools; I think most places don’t even take it into account, and it’ll leach time away from supracurricular exploration and making sure to get as high grades as possible.

That being said, if you really want to pick up physics or FM (I did bio chem maths phys for a couple of months then dropped phys) because you enjoy the subject then absolutely go ahead, just be careful with it and make sure not to overstretch yourself - it doesn’t help.

Also as someone said before there is no advantage to do 4 A Levels

Do whatever is easiest to get an A grade in- would stick to 3 A-levels- bio, chem + whatever is an easy A. Med schools don't care what you did your 3rd a level in and dont care for 4 a-levels- as long as you meet the grade entry requirements.

Are you sure you want to do med if you enjoy maths related subjects so much? For med you really have to have your whole heart in it so if thats not the case and you want to keep your options open then think strongly about whether this is a suitable aspiration for your interests 🙂
