YR 12 Work experience - paramedic

Hi, I am a year 12 student looking to do work experience in March.
I am wanting to become paramedic so if anyone has any suggestions on where I could do work experience that would be great.
I am based around Nottingham

Hiya @sootyandmin

I’m currently studying paramedic science at BCU.
Do you have any previous part-time work or work experience?

If you have a St. John’s ambulance service or british red cross local to you, many people volunteer with them to get experience. You can apply online.

I don’t know of specific places in your local area but you could try asking to volunteer at care homes, charity shops, homeless shelters, food banks etc.

It can be a struggle trying to get healthcare experience due to age constraints and limited availability. You would be surprised how many transferable skills customer-facing roles such as a cafe, pub, or shop have! Anything where you will be working in a busy environment really .

It’s not as much what you have done, it’s about reflecting upon what skills you have learnt from these experiences and how they will prepare you to work as a paramedic.

Hope this helps 🙂 Let me know if there’s anything else i can help with.

Heyy , thanks for the help

I am currently looking to volunteer at a care home which would be separate from my work experience and I am also on the waiting list and have been for about a year to join the St Johns Ambulance cadets in my area

That’s great! I found my care home experience really valuable to my communication skills especially when on placement.

Hope it all goes well
