Year 12 work experience for medicine

Hi everyone, I'm a year 12 student and am looking for NHS work experience! I currently have the options of acute medicine and cardiology, and was just wondering from experience which department would be better and more insightful from a medicine standpoint, but also to write about on my personal statement. All help would be appreciated!

its amazing that you've got both of these amazing opportunities! i wish i did before applying loll. so the point of work experience is not only to gain experience- it's also what you learnt! both of these are great departments for learning and experiencing new things. but if you easily want to have things to talk about in your personal statement easily go with acute medicine. the acute medicine unit is so diverse in it's patients. you'll see short stay patients with a huge range of issues from chest infections to internal bleeding. there will be a lot to say in you personal statement about this and you'll also be able to see a all sorts of healthcare professionals form doctors to social workers and this is a great thing to mention in your personal statement! i believe you will also have a chance of seeing a multidisciplinary team at work before ward rounds which is extremely insightful. so if i was in this lucky position before sending in a med school application i would go with acute medicine. also if there's a way of attending both work experiences i would definitely do so, it can only strengthen your personal statement! hope this helps
