Nothing wrong with your A Levels, your GCSEs pose more of a concern. However, depending on how your A Levels go, you still have a pretty solid chance.

Hello,

That’s great to hear you are considering studying economics and finance at uni! I currently study psychology at the University of Southampton and have loved it - so I would highly recommend, especially as it is a Russel Group uni which is what you are looking for.

At Southampton, the entry requirements for economics and finance can be found here. For GCSEs you must have a minimum of a 4 in english, which you do. The required grades for A-level are AAB including maths, or ABBB including maths if you take four subjects.

Hope this helped and let me know if you have any more questions!

I’ve heard Exeter purely go based of predicted, but Bath and Bristol look at GCSEs , so I’d avoid the others, but go for Exeter as long as ur predicted a*aa minimum
Hi there!

Its lovely to hear you're considering Bath as one of your options.

Something you might find helpful is this guide form our website: Admissions for A level students for Economics - it states how we look at applications and how we weight different factors as well as the typical offer grades. Perhaps take a look and see what you think.

Unfortunately our Econ course is one of our most popular and thus competitive courses and we're not able to give offers to all students even if you meet or exceed the entry requirements - but its always healthy to have 1-2 aspirational choices as it gives you something positive to am for.

Please note however that we at Bath do not offer a joint Econ and Finance degree - we do Econ, Econ and Politics, Econ and Maths, and Finance separately - just make sure you select the one you want on UCAS, should you choose to apply.

Hope this helps, best of luck 🙂

Do not obsess about RG - its just marketing fluff and does not actually mean anything in the real world. There are numerous Unis that are a better option than Exeter. Look at Lancaster instead.

And btw , Bath is insanely competitive for anything to do with Econ - and it doesn't actually offer Econ-Fin as a joint subject degree. Its also one of the most expensive places to live as a student with rents at the same level as London.
