Hi @Anonymous 👋

Hope you are well. In my opinion, it is pretty good to get a dorm because you can make friends more easily and you will be closer to campus and the facilities which is useful. For me, i am in dorms and i find it extremely useful to be on campus since i can easily go back and forth to lectures and see my friends and pick up packages at my own convenience! Many people who commute have a problem with making friends because they are not on campus as often and miss out on socials but it is not a big problem. You might appreciate staying in dorms for the first year so you settle in and make friends and then you could commute if you wish.

We don't have 'dorms' at UK Universities.

Hi there,

I think it would be worth living in halls in your first year, but ultimately it is up to you! It isn't strange to live in halls for your first year and then plan to live at home in second year, but you may also end up deciding to live away from home in second year too which is fine too!

You won't have to say anything about this on your UCAS application as it will be done separately. The only places you will have to say what you are doing is your SFE application as the amount you get will differ depending on if you are living at home or in halls, and on the accommodation application for your uni. Every uni does this differently, but you will probably have to fill in some kind of form with the halls you would like to live in.

I would suggest going to an open day so that you can look around the accommodation options and see which one you think you like the look of so you know where you want to stay!

I hope some of this helps,
