Chemistry proportion Materials Sciences at Imperial/Oxford

So up until now my favourite science has been chemistry, but recently some materials science courses have really appealed to me. However I dont quite want to leave chemistry behind completely. Can anyone doing these courses explain how much chemistry there actually is or if there is the option to pursue a more chemistry focused route? Do any options include things like organic chemistry (my fave)?

Hi there! (:

Really depends on the specific course structure with how much chemistry is included, you should be able to contact the uni directly and they will be able to let you know the course structure! - I'm currently looking for chemistry placements atm, have applied for a few material science ones - mainly been phyiscal and inorganic chem involved in those 😊

also worth asking about electives offered! - you might be able to do some organic chemistry on the side in first year if your course doesn't already have u taking the max credits (: - in my first year i did some biomolecular science which was pretty nice!

also thought worth mentioning to you, a few of my friends do medicinal chemistry courses (: - might be worth you looking into if you really enjoy organic as pretty heavily organic based!

hope this helps, best of luck & if youve got any questions about studying chem at uni im happy to have a wee chat! 🤗
