If it helps, I'm on the MSc at City currently and didn't do any reading before I started the course (and not that much since, I won't lie!!)
We really started from the beginning on everything so you don't need to come in prepared
If you really want to read something I personally think it's nice to read some books written by people you might be supporting - personal stories of living with speech and language difficulties. Enjoy it!

thanks for that 😉 Can you tell me what a typical week looks like, at least in the first year? In terms of how many lesson hours per day and time in clinic? the course description doesn't go into such detail but it would help to have an idea, as I have to plan for family. No worries if you'd rather not - and if you do, I obviously realise that things could change.

Hiya, hope this is helpful from a City MSc Speech and Language Therapy first year perspective!

In term 1 of first year, we were on campus Mondays (9am - 4pm) and Fridays (9.30am - 4pm) and online on Thursdays, and then had Tuesday/Wednesday to do prep and study. We also completed our own brief placements which took 4.5 days in total, and some people did them during Reading Week but others did them on the Tuesdays and Wednesdays we had free.

My timetable for this term (term 2 of first year MSc) is below!

Monday - on campus
9-11am - Stammering lecture
12pm - 2pm - Audiology lecture
2pm - 3:30pm - Clinical Tutorial
4pm - 6pm - Speech Development Lecture

Tuesday - placement
9am - 5pm

Wednesday - day off
On this day I’ll watch pre-recordings for the week and do coursework/other work

Thursday - on campus
9am - 11am - Clinical Skills lecture
12pm - 1pm - Dysphagia lecture
1pm - 2:30pm - Psychology lecture
4pm - 5pm - Phonetics tutorial

Friday - all online
10am - 11am - Phonetics lecture
12pm - 1pm - Brain and Behaviour lecture

It does vary a fair bit, and in summer term we’ll be on placement three days a week but not in teaching much.
Over summer, we finish exams and placements on 10th July and then have the summer free until we return on October 5th. Second year appears to be broadly similar, just with different days on campus/on placement.

Hope that helps, please feel free to ask me any other questions you might have!

Ah sorry, it’s like half term at school where you have a week off half way through term to catch up on reading/coursework etc.!
