EPQ - is my EPQ topic too close to my subject?

My EPQ topic is 'How Does JRR Tolkien continue the tradition of the Epic, and what is his relationship to Oral composition?'

I will be reasearching epics from classical greek and roman, the divine comedy, paradise lost, beowulf and the edda and how they impact Tolkien's work/reflect his themes. I'm just worried that it's too close to Classics, where I study The Odyssey and Aeneid. I was going to use the Odyssey in relation to Tolkien.

I don't do Classics so I don't know about Classics in particular, but I DO do ancient history and an EPQ. I would say that using The Odyssey or the Aeneid would definitely be dual accreditation (when your EPQ is too close to your A-level), but you could use any other ancient Epic that you don't study and you'd be fine. It sounds like a sick idea btw!! Never thought about Tolkien being influenced by the Epic style but it does make sense. Hope it goes well!

I took an EPQ last year where I studied women in Greek theatre when one of my topics for classics is Greek theatre. As long as you don’t use texts which you specifically study for A-level you should be fine. Eg. The Odyssey probably wouldn’t be able to be used.
