Laptop vs Tablet for an economics student starting next year

Hi, so I am applying to university next year, more specifically to ones with foundation years. ((leeds, oxford, reading, surrey)kingston maybe but I might change it to a university that is located in a very nice area by the sea like swansea I heard was good). Reasons being one my predicted grades are not bad but they are all over the block ((A for economics, C for philosophy, E for maths) although I reckon I can definitely bump up my philosophy and maths, doing much better in maths key assessments now). Also because I think it makes transitioning to university easier also it would relieve a lot of stress with lower grade requirements and easier first year. Going into university I think I will need a note taking device for lectures, partly because my hand writing and organising notes is so messy when doing it on paper, that I think next year a laptop or tablet would be a very beneficial alternative. Mainly because I can literally just store notes in folders I can find on the tablet or laptop and not have like a bunch of notebooks lying around. For context I do have a desktop PC, one that is not a push over (RTX 4070 super + ryzen 7800x3d) so, very powerful.

The reason I asked this question is I am unsure what would be more worth it. I do know technically speaking laptops will give me a bit wider ranger of tools, excel, I would imagine would be the app that I would be using the most and laptops let me do a little bit more than a tablet? don't know specifically what. However considering I already have the desktop PC, I was thinking well would it not be more useful to go for something a bit more of a note taking device that I can write on like the samsung tab, probably s12 when it comes out. I am also considering like the use case, for context I have a samsung tab s5e and an s6 lite ((bought the s6 lite because I could draw on it)and I do love drawing as a hobby, especially on tablets as it is less messy then with pencils and paper). s5e I use more for reading and media consumption because of the amoled screen. So I was thinking would it not make more sense if I trade the s6 lite in and give the s5e to my dad and upgrade to a tablet that has the best of both worlds and is powerful enough for most laptop tasks. I am not going to have a tv in a dorm and I would ideally like to watch things from my bed and not sit down on a chair and look at a monitor to do so. Also the multi use case could make it worth it, watching movies and shows on a really good display, drawing and note taking. whereas the laptop would feel better for just note taking, it might be good for media consumption but not as much as a tab I think. The tasks I can't accomplish on a tab, I just do on my desktop when I am in the dorm room.

Or there are the alternatives like a 2 in 1 laptop or just buy a tab or laptop and the other one at a later date. Considering I am doing a foundation year for starters I would imagine the tasks I do won't be that intensive. I don't know, I am leaning to getting a tablet, but I am not yet a student doing economics, business or finance at university. So if anyone has any input, would really appreciate it.

Tablet with hard keyboard that doubles as a cover, for example an MS Surface.

Good luck!
