UCAS Deadline - January

Welcome here to all the fellow soon-to-be uni students. The UCAS deadline of January 14th is approaching and I know that it’s stressful and you may still be uncertain about your university choices but I’ve covered all the essential bits for you to ace that deadline on time💪.

Before you submit your application make sure you’ve completed all these main points:
Personal details:
It’s probably the quickest part of the UCAS application but do make sure you entered everything correctly.

Personal statement:
This is your chance to shine and show your passion, why you want to apply for this course and a little background about yourself, studies and achievements. There so many good resources on how to write a good personal statement which is covered here and here.

References:
You’ll need a reference from someone who knows you well. Usually this is completed by the tutors in your college/sixth form. But if you’re a mature student who isn’t currently in education, you can use your employer (if you’re employed). If you’re a mature student who isn’t in employment, you can ask your old teacher (from school) or a previous professional colleague/supervisor. Send your reference request early on and give your referee a heads up in advance because it might take them some time to complete it.

Your choices:
You can apply for up to five universities, make sure you researched them properly including their entry requirement criteria and whether you’ll be able to meet them by August. Some things I recommend you research when choosing your universities: student reviews and the attitudes and values represented in their open days (please do attend open days, they’re very helpful).

Once you’ve completed everything, proofread your personal statement a few times to make sure there are no typos and send your tutor a draft of it before submitting. You can also ask your family to read it for you and give you any tips.

To make sure your application runs smoothly, make a checklist of everything you need to complete 📝, take breaks and always ask for help if you’re stuck or unsure about something. After you’ve submitted it, take a deep breath and celebrate this little accomplishment 🥳. If you’re applying for a course that requires an interview (e.g., healthcare courses) start your journey into prepping for it.

Do you remember how you UCAS application was and what tips helped you the most?
Hi there!

When I was applying to unis, the thing that helped me most was people reminding me that as long as your application is submitted by the deadline, how soon you submit will have no impact on your chances of getting an offer. I was the kind of person who just wanted to submit it sooner rather than later so I didn't have to think about it anymore, but there is no benefit to doing this! You have until 14th Jan to submit your application so if you need more time, use it!

Hope this helps, thankyou for sharing 🙂

Thank you for sharing😊, it is definitely better to submit a whole completed application on the 13th of January instead of an incomplete application a month prior to the deadline.
