UCAS ielts do I need my results before sending off my application

Hi guys I am an international student who took the IELTS last year.

Unfortunately, I missed the minimum requirement for a grade; while the requirement is a minimum of 7 in every category, I received a 6 in writing. I am planning to retake the test in January.

However, I am preparing to submit my UCAS application before Christmas using my current IELTS results. Will this affect my university choices regarding acceptance? I have heard that some students still received offers but were required to pass the IELTS later in order to be accepted.

Hello,

It won’t affect your acceptance, universities send a “conditional offer” with a certain set of criteria. Here, they’d likely send you a conditional offer for you to undertake the IELTS exam and achieve a certain grade, they also give you a deadline to achieve these conditions. Once you send them your IELTS results and achieve these conditions, the offer is changed to “unconditional”. In short, yes you can apply even before undertaking your IELTS exam😊.

All the best

You need not include IELTS results in your UCAS application. Unis usually give conditional offers setting out their required exam grades and IELTS scores (overall and sub-scores) for admission. Good luck.

Apply now and give your current IELTS TRF id - Unis can then check your current score. They may still accept this if your scores are close to their requirements, or they may ask you to retake it by a certain date as part of any offer.

You can still submit your UCAS application now, even if your IELTS writing score is slightly below the requirement. Many students receive conditional offers based on their current results. The university will simply ask you to retake IELTS and meet the minimum score before they issue your final acceptance or CAS.
