What is global law at the University of Edinburgh?

I’m Northern Irish, I have applied for 4 law courses and have one choice left. I’ve always wanted to apply to the University of Edinburgh, but they only offer Scots law which complicates practising in NI. I saw they have a course called “Global Law”, I’m interested in what this actually is and the job prospects of this. I know from reading their website a degree in it does not qualify you to practice law, but it sounds interesting all the same.

Alternatively, would it be a bad idea to apply for a politics/international relations at Edinburgh despite my statement explicitly mentioning law as a course multiple times? I talk about an interest in politics and its relationship with law a lot my statement (even saying it was first my interest in politics that led me to be interested in law), and mention various ways I’ve been involved in youth politics. Thank you in advance!

This is a comparative law course, looking at the legal systems of different states. The degree could lead to any kind of career that does not require STEM expertise. As you know, you would need to complete a GDL if you wish to practise law in England/Wales, Scotland, or Northern Ireland after studying Global Law at Edinburgh.

As you probably know, the law degree at Queen's, Belfast sets you up to qualify as a lawyer in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, and England/Wales (but not Scotland).
