Interrupting studies because of health

I’m thinking of interrupting studies because I’m really struggling with my health.

I’ve called student finance with my questions but I’m still confused how this would affect me in terms of repayment.I haven’t taken out any maintance loans, only my tuition.

I started my first year in 24/25 and I want to interrupt this term of second year so that I can come back in September and start again.

I was told that for medical reasons that I can get 60 days of additional funding. don’t really understand what this means. Does this mean I will still pay back the 25% that I have been given? Does this means my repayment will be affected less compared to somebody who interrupts on non medical reasons? Does this work like a hardship fund?

Has anyone else interrupted studiess because of health and regretted it based on financial reasons?

Hi Blackmoth,

The 60 days only really affects you if you are receiving Maintenance Loan or grants which can affect overpayment. This wont be the case for you if you are only in receipt of the Tuition Fee Loan, as that will go into repayments as normal.

Thanks, Clare
