Chances of getting in to BSC Finance

I am in year 13 and want to get ideas if my application is realistic or too unrealistic.
My predicted grades are A*-Maths A-Economics A-Psychology
My GCSE’s are 887777776655
I am applying to:
1.Bath Finance- A*AA
2.Bristol Finance- AAA
3.Durham Finance AAB (BBB if I receive contextual offer)
4.Exeter Finance AAB (BBB if I receive contextual offer)
5. Not sure on 5th choice (any recommendations would be appreciated)

Any opinions on my grades/courses/universities would be much appreciated. Be as harsh as possible
Hi there,

In all honesty I think your choices sound sensible, and so does your combination of subjects for A-level (showcases both mathematical and essay-writing skills).

You appear to have us as an aspirational, Bristol as a realistic, as Durham and Exeter as realistic/possible insurances. If you're predicted A*AA however, you can defo afford to have another AAA course if you'd like.

As for a third choice this is ultimately your choice to make, but high-performing unis include Leeds (Banking and Finance, optional placement year, AAA), Queen's uni Belfast (placement year, ABB), and Glasgow (placement course, AAA-ABB). If you look on The Complete Uni Guide's Accounting and Finance subject league table this will be a good first step to seeing what other unis offer finance-type courses - although its important to look at the structures to make sure they sound interesting to you!

Hopefully this helps a bit, best of luck 🙂

What if I made my 5 choices
Warwick A*AA
Bath A*AA
Bristol AAA
Nottingham AAA
Exeter AAB (BBB if contextual offer)
Hi again,

I'm sure others can give their opinion too, but I think for someone with A*AA predicted and you're relatively happy that you can achieve that, then those choices are also very sensible, because you've got 2 aspirationals (A*AA), 2 realistics (AAA) and Exeter as a potential insurance. So this range would also be fine.

So long as you'd definitely rather do Warwick than Durham - there's quite a difference in locations between the two!

You only really need one insurance choice so long as you'd be 100% happy to go there just in case things didn't go your way on results day.

Good selection - wishing you the best!

Hey there, your grades are really strong, and your subjects line up really well with finance, so your choices aren’t unrealistic at all. You’re aiming high, which is great, but it’s also smart to have a balanced fifth choice that still leads you into the finance world with loads of opportunities to grow.

If you’re open to exploring something a bit more applied and career focused, LSBU could be a really solid option for that final space. Our Business Management with Finance route gives you the analytical grounding you’d expect from a finance degree, but with a very practical, real world approach. A lot of students really like that the course links directly to how finance works in actual businesses, not just in theory, and being in London puts you right in the middle of opportunities for placements, internships and networking.

We also have a dedicated Business School building that’s just for business students. Inside you’ll find lecture rooms, a student kitchen, collaborative spaces and even seminar rooms with bean bags for those more relaxed case study sessions. There are also entrepreneurial opportunities where you can pitch ideas, develop start-ups and even win funding to get your project going, which is a huge bonus if you’re thinking about business or innovation in the future.
With your grades in Maths, Economics and Psychology, you’d be bringing a great mix of skills, and you’d fit in really well on a course that values both numbers and people focused thinking.

You’re always welcome to explore LSBU further. We have a virtual open day on 9th December from 12:30 to 1:30 pm or you can book a campus tour https://www.lsbu.ac.uk/study/study-at-lsbu/open-days/campus-tours to get a proper feel for our spaces. You can also chat with our current students on Unibuddy https://www.lsbu.ac.uk/student-life/chat to get an insight into the courses you’re curious about.
