Student loan and ELQ exempt courses

Hi.

I was recently accepted into the part-time (4 years) BSc program in Business Computing. I also hold a Bachelor of Arts degree from a UK university, which I completed over four years on a part-time basis in 2013. I also hold a Master's degree obtained from a university outside the United Kingdom, completed through one year of full-time study.
It seems like I might be able to get tuition fee support and maintenance support, because my new course is ELQ-exempt (computing, part-time).

However, I am still uncertain due to a clause relating to the duration of prior studies. There is a section in SLC regarding the length of prior studies. It states that the duration of your current course plus one gift year minus previous years of study equals your remaining years of funding.

Considering this, since all my prior studies concluded with graduation and the total duration of my previous studies is five years (four years for undergraduate studies and one year for Master's), it appears that I might not be eligible for any student loan.

Or do these regulations not apply to ELQ-exempt courses?

Hi there,

Can you confirm when the course starts and can you also confirm what university you will attend?

Thanks, Drew

Hi there, the calculation in question (duration of current course plus one additional year for repeats minus previous years of study) would normally be used when dealing with a student's previous study. However, if your applying for an exemption course on a part time basis, previous study is not included based on the exemption.

To qualify as an exception the course must be one of the following levels:

part time honours degree

joint honours degree

integrated masters degree.

And be one of the following subjects:

Medicine and Dentistry (CAH01)

Subjects to Allied Medicine (CAH02)

Biological and Sport Science (CAH03)

Psychology (CAH04)

Veterinary Sciences (CAH05)

Agriculture, Food and Related Sciences (CAH06)

Physical Sciences (CAH07)

Mathematical Sciences (CAH09)

Engineering and Technology (CAH10)

Computing (CAH11)

Geographical, Earth and Environmental Sciences (CAH26).
