Lifelong Learning Entitlement for someone who’s currently self funding

Hi

I have a question about LLE, I’ve asked my university but they aren’t sure. Hope you might be able to help!

I have level 7 qualification (integrated) from abroad so I’m not eligible for student finance.

I started a law degree in 2025 and currently paying for it myself.

My understanding is that I would qualify for the LLE once it’s rolled out in 2027 if I started my course in 2027? This doesn’t seem fair, I’m already in my 40s and don’t have 2 years to spare to wait…

Would I have to leave my degree and enroll again from 2027 (and hopefully get credit transfer for previous study) to access LLE?

Or am I doomed to have to self-fund my whole degree because it started before 2027?

Many thanks in advance for any clarification you might be able to offer!

Eva

Hi there,

The lifelong learning has not been fully rolled out to us and I can only advise you check the link to see if this can answer questions.

Thank you. It doesn’t answer this atm but I’ll keep checking in case it is updated later.

I think this group of people (not eligible under SLC but eligible under LLE) might have got overlooked in the guidance? It says I should apply for a student loan under the existing scheme but I’m not eligible.

We're hoping to have more information on how exactly Lifelong Learning will work over the next couple of months.

Sorry we can't be more specific, but feel free to check back with us next year and we'll see if there's an update on this.

Thanks, Graeme
