for ours we put the historians right at the start of our essay, after the intro. for me i did 1 para per historian, then 1 para comparing and stating which is more convincing. i then referenced them throughout my essay if it aligned with the point i was making. my historians section took up 1000 words ish if that helps as a guide. you won't get graded lower for picking one historian over another, just as long as they are reputable historians (eg someone who has a book on the topic or smt - if ur unsure if u can use a historian just ask ur teacher). if it helps, this is the checklist our school gave us for writing it:
□ Explored at least two historians’ views in line with Q focus
□ Clear analysis of interpretations of both historians
□ Discussed the context of their work (when were they writing?)
□ How would this context impact their views?
□ Refer to both historians and their differing arguments throughout
(Remember – your Historians’ views may differ subtly rather than overtly; this is fine as long as you explain this)
