Hi I’m a gap year student, I got an AAB (As in psychology and biology, B in chemistry) and I want to know what are my best university options and how likely I’m able to get in. It would also be helpful for any guidance for university choices for a gap year student with my grades.

Browse UCAS for uni courses you are interested in. You would have decent chances of unconditional offers if your achieved grades meet the uni's requirements. But nothing is guaranteed. Good luck.

Hiya lovely
AAB is a strong set of grades, and taking a gap year can actually work in your favour because universities like the certainty of achieved results. With your subjects you’re well-placed for a range of psychology, life-science and health-related degrees. In general, you’ll be competitive for courses asking for AAB/ABB, very strong for BBB, and still potentially considered for some AAA courses depending on competitiveness. When choosing where to apply, aim for a balanced mix of one aspirational choice, a few realistic ones, and one safer option. Make sure to check subject requirements carefully, as some courses care about Chemistry while many don’t. Use your gap year to your advantage by doing anything that builds skills or experience—work, volunteering, extra learning, or personal projects all help your application. Focus on course structure, accreditation, and whether the modules match your interests rather than just the name or ranking of the university. Most importantly, don’t worry about being on a gap year; universities don’t view it negatively and often appreciate the maturity and certainty that comes with applying with achieved grades.

What course are you looking to apply for? Congratulations on your grades too, they are really good and will give you a wide variety of unis that you could apply to! Also lots of unis think that doing a gap year can be super beneficial and can actually enhance your application, so I wouldn't worry too much if you were concerned unis might be picky about it. I'm studying ecology (in the school of biological sciences) at UEA, so if you were looking to perhaps do a biology or biochem-related course, I can give you some more info if you are interested! Plus the Biological Sciences course, for example, at UEA would fit your grade requirements (the typical offer is ABB).
Good luck with your applications! UEA Rep Rosie ☺️

Hello.
Congraulations on those grades! AAB, I believe, is worth 136 UCAS points! Those grades certainly open your options to many different universities.
As someone who also applied to university during a gap year, I actually found that I had quite an advantage compared to others applying at the same time, and that was because I already had my grades! This meant that I could research what courses were available to me with my set number of UCAS points, and when I made my decision (Anglia Ruskin University), I could apply and immeditaley send off my A-Level certificates. This meant that I could complete the application process and firm my place at University a lot quicker than many of my peers who had yet to sit their A-Levels. This certainly relieved me of a lot of the anxiety that comes with applying to a university without knwoing whether you'll get the grades to get in.
If you have any questions, feel free to drop a message!

Brilliant, good luck with your application! UEA does not currently have specific dentistry courses, but I wish you luck with your application and course! I hope you find a uni that is a good fit for you, having a browse of UCAS would be a great place to start. I would also think about which uni fits you best as a person (visiting them/ open days are really useful!), not just which one is best in the league tables!
