How to manage uni work with interest in japanese

There’s already a ton of uni work to deal with but there’s also this big interest in japanese stuff on the side especially their names and how the meaning changes with different kanji. (iykyk) Anyone of you here trying to handle normal study pressure while also learning something extra just because it’s fun? How do people keep it going and without getting swamped? Thoughts would be appreciated!
