Psychology at Uni of Manchester

Hi!! So I’ve been given an offer to study Psych at Manchester and just wondered if anyone could share their experience at all. I love the look of the city and the university itself but I haven’t heard a whole ton about the psychology department. Hopefully I may go to an offer day if they hold one so I can find out more there but if anyone has any relevant experience they could talk about that would be great!!! My other offers I’ve been given are for Exeter, Birmingham, and York and I’ve also applied to Cardiff. So if anyone has comparisons as well that would be interesting. Thanks!!

hii! ive also applied to study psychology at the university of Manchester as I just love the city and I'm also really passionate about psychology, but so far I haven't received an offer yet. I was just wondering, when did you send off your UCAS application and how long did it take to get an offer from them? and if you don't mind me asking, what were your predicted grades? thank you

Hi @Tom_Abel,

Congrats on the offer - that’s amazing! I’ll give you a quick, honest view from an Exeter Psychology perspective.
Psych at Exeter is really strong academically and well regarded.

The department is known for good teaching and research, and you get a solid foundation in first year before being able to specialise later on (clinical, neuroscience, behavioural stuff, etc.). Classes aren’t overwhelmingly huge, so it’s easier to get support and actually know your lecturers compared to some big city unis.

Student-life wise, Exeter is very campus-based, which makes it easy to settle in and feel part of a community. Everything’s close together - lectures, library, socials - and while the city is smaller than Manchester, there’s still plenty going on if you get involved.

If you want a strong psychology course with a supportive, sociable campus feel, Exeter is a great option. Definitely come for a tour if you can - it really helps you see whether the vibe feels right for you.

Hope this helps 🙂
