I had a free choice in my UCAS application, im applying for engineering, and i decided to put Mathematics at St Andrews just out of curiosity for what they would say.
If i did manage to somehow get an offer, it would be my firm, but from what people have told me they say St Andrews cares alot about personal statements - is this true?
My personal statement mainly revolves around chemistry and physics, although I do mention Advanced Higher Maths in question 2.
Additionally, i qualify for the "guaranteed offer scheme" and i fall under the minimum entry requirements (AABB) and i have AAABB, but it says " provided that the desire to study the subject is demonstrable, the minimum asking rates within all specified required subjects are met"
does this mean i wont be considered due to my personal statement not showing my desire to study maths?
thanks

I wouldn't worry too much. I just got an offer from St Andrews for Psychology and History, and my personal statement was definitely more history and politics focused

Not sure why you didn't apply for physics - it would be quite doable to switch to maths once you got there
