Personal statement for different nursing course??

Hi!!
I’ve applied to 4/5 unis for children’s nursing using a personal statement that is heavily tailored towards children’s care/paediatrics etc. The only choice I’ve applied to that don’t offer this course is the university of Edinburgh (they offer only nursing studies - which is not the same as adult nursing but will ultimately lead to a qualification in that field) but I’ve used the same personal statement. Does this kill my chances of getting in? Should I just swap it out for another uni that offers children’s nursing??

Hi!

I would say it definitely won't kill your chances of going to Edinburgh as both child nursing and adult nursing both possess the same general skills needed for that profession. As long as you have shown a passion for nursing overall. Universities are also aware that you can only do one personal statement for 5 uni courses so that is hopefully taken into consideration so don't overthink your wording within your personal statement too much! Just make sure that your personal statement isn't too narrowing in on specifically children and child wards as it may sound like your genuinely not open to adult nursing.

In summary, it won't automatically disqualify you from Edinburgh, if you get an interview make sure to express your openness to adult nursing and your passion for general nursing over all!

Hope this helps and good luck!

Hiya lovely

It definitely doesn’t kill your chances, so try not to stress too much! Admissions teams know that you only get one personal statement for all your choices, and lots of applicants apply to slightly different branches of nursing. It’s really common for people to tailor their PS more towards the area they’re most passionate about in your case, children’s nursing and unis are used to seeing that.

Universities will mainly be looking for your motivation for nursing as a whole, your understanding of the profession, your caring experience, and your ability to reflect. If your statement shows those things (even in a paeds context) then it can still be perfectly strong for Edinburgh.

If you are interested in child nursing why not check us out if you have the chance. Maybe our course is the thing you are looking for.
But
If you genuinely want to keep Edinburgh as an option, you don’t need to swap it out just because of the PS. Only replace it if you’ve decided their course really isn’t what you want anymore.

I presume you really want to study child nursing so why choose adult for your fifth? It doesn't seem sensible if you prefer child nursing.

Yes, The University of Edinburgh does offer nursing degrees, including an undergraduate BN (Hons) Nursing program that leads to registration as an adult nurse. They also provide various postgraduate nursing programs, such as the Master of Nursing with Pre-Registration (Adult) and other taught and research options.

The thing is that Edinburgh university adult nursing course is four years instead of three years at Edinburgh Napier university. Both offering BSC course with Edinburgh doing a extra year.

Apply for Napier university as it has a brilliant reputation for pass rates for nursing courses.
I'm sure Edinburgh Napier offers children nursing courses as well adult nursing, mental health nursing midwifery.

Ex Napier university student midwife ( been qualified for a good few years now and found Napier excellent).

I have a preference for Childs nursing but it’s the nursing itself that I’m interested in - I’m not so much fussed over the specific field. It was very close between adults and child’s though!
