Got A*A*A*. Ask me any questions :)

Hi everyone! My name is Alex and I'm currently on my gap year. I got 3 A*s this summer (over the moon it was completely unexpected), and I will be going to Bath Uni in September 2026. I want to stay engaged with education during my gap year so I thought a good way to do so is to give some advice to any A level students studying at the moment!

My subjects were English Language (OCR), Sociology (AQA) and Politics (AQA). Id be really happy to share any advice with these subjects or any other essay type subject (but obviously I can specialise more with the subjects I took).

And also I have all my papers from my exams so if you wanted to look through any answers I did feel free to let me know

Thanks for the ping @DerDracologe!

Hiya, I do Politics and Sociology (both AQA), so I'd love if I could ask some questions about those. I'm predicted A*s in both but I don't feel like I'm currently working at this level 😅.

Firstly, how do you manage your time in Politics? My current tactic is to work backwards through the paper and do the 25 markers first, and that usually works. Though, I've just done a past paper literally right now for Paper 2 politics since that's what my mock will be on, and I didn't manage to finish in time at all 😭.

Secondly, if you could share your answers that would be utterly wonderful; I always feel like I'm ever so slightly marked down in my sociology essays, and It'd be nice to read some answers marked by examiners that aren't on the answers & commentaries.

Thank you so much!

I am doing Edexcel Politics rather than AQA, currently predicted an A but stuck on a B-C. How would you recommend revising for essays + being able to recall it in detail in exams. And how much time would you spend doing each subject? As i find Politics tends to hoard most of my revision time.

Please help me as I also do sociology and English. Same exam boards as you but I’m struggling to get beyond a c/b grade. I’m in year 12 and want to know how I can revise and improve on my grades. Any advice would be great.

TIA!

Congratulations on your achievements!
I'm in year 13 and I too am doing English Language OCR and I find it incredibly difficult. This is the first time the school I attend is doing A-levels and im struggling with the information they give. They don't know what they are doing and my only real support is the textbook which can't guide me to get A and A*. I was wondering if you had any tips and resources to achieve the same grade as you?

Could I please have a look at your sociology papers ?
Thank you !

I’m not sure how the OCR English Language differs from Edexcel (my board), but I’m currently struggling with annotation and getting the motivation to attempt essays.
Any advice? Or any advice in general to do with Language would be so so appreciated, its the subject I’m worried about most :/
