Westminster 16+ King’s Scholarship

Hey,

I was wondering what platforms people used to prepare for the exams for maths, further maths, chemistry and biology. I also would like to earn a King’s scholarship and was curious as to how people went the extra mile to attain this. My current school is not academically competitive and is a mid range private school, I have a year and a half to prepare for the exams. I’m working at a 9 for all of my sciences but I haven’t had a further maths test or a graded maths test yet . I would also like to know what made students stand out. I do Model United Nations and have gotten awards at international conferences but I don’t know other academic enrichment programs and competitions I can take part in.

Thank you

Hi. I think you need to study all GCSE content for your chosen subjects first. Study paper 1 in school and you need to study some paper 2 topics by yourself as you will not learn all paper 2 topics in school before the entrance exam. While you are studying paper 2, use textbooks with the subject specifications. And probably do some past paper questions when you finish each topic, you can find them on PMT website.

I did not choose further maths because it is not a subject in my current school. But for the general maths paper, you probably need to prepare some AS contents (some are included in GCSE FM) and I think there will be some maths challenge style questions come up in the exam.

The entry exams are testing how you think but not memorisation. You can find some westiminster school entry exam specimen papers on their website or just google it.

You can take part in some maths competitions like UKMT SMC or BMO. If you are good at some sports you can participate some competitions.

Hi,

Thank you so much. I’ll make sure to do this first 🙏.

I have also been able to compete at a national level for swimming, waterpolo and athletics. I partly assumed that Westminster didn’t care much about sports (apart from rowing and cricket) considering they didn’t have a sport scholarship but I’ll keep up my sports now that I know this.

Thank you, again.
