Student finance struggle

Is there any way to ask student finance for more loan , my loan this year has been cut completely in half due to changing circumstances in my family , unfortunately this doesn't mean I get the help I need from my family . And I can't allow working more hours to support me instead of doing my uni work . It's frustrating because I asked for a higher loan and they said they can't help but now I'm one term in and I'm feeling the effects. I have no money.

Did you apply for the higher rate of Maintenance Loan and was it awarded? What are the circumstances that seem to have changed your entitlement this year?
