Anglia Ruskin University Jan intake & Peterborough accommodation guidance

Hi everyone,

I am an international student from India and I am going to Anglia Ruskin University for the January intake. My campus will be Peterborough.

I wanted to ask:
1. Is Peterborough a good and safe city for students?
2. How is part-time job availability there?
3. I am looking for shared accommodation. Can anyone please guide me about:

Rent range
Best student areas
How to find genuine shared rooms

If anyone is already living in Peterborough or studying at ARU Peterborough, please help me.

Thank you so much in advance!

Hello Manjotkaur18,

Excited to hear you have applied to ARU! Even though I personally do not live in Peterborough or study at the campus, I can answer couple of your questions based on what I've heard from locals.

1.

It is quite a student city, with a lot of alternative and bougie bars! The crime rates are generally low in Cambridgeshire, however I would still look out for bike theft if you are planning on commuting by bike. I keep my bike double locked and parked at campus with CCTV nearby (mostly for peace of mind).

2.

Part-time jobs are not that difficult to find as you'd think. Full-time jobs are hard to find, that is for sure, but I have not yet met a person who struggled to find a PART-TIME job. Most of my friends at ARU apply for part-time jobs as a barista, cinema staff, and even weekend cleaning at hotels. ARU Temps also offers a lot of part-time jobs which you can find at https://temps.aru.ac.uk/.

3.

Peterborough ARU does not have any student accomodation, however the university does offer some legit agencies which offer private sector accomodation. At https://www.aru.ac.uk/student-life/accommodation/accommodation-in-peterborough you can find these agencies, alongside some tips, useful information and information on how to get in contact with the Residential Service.

Looking at home.co.uk, a lot of rental properties fall between £500 to £1,000 pcm, however there are still some options which are lower at £250 to £500 pcm. From what I have heard from my friends at ARU, the rent in Peterborough tends to be lower than in Central Cambridge, and because of this I was considering the Peterborough campus for myself! I would definitely recommend having a look at a variety of properties before you come down.

Hope some of this was helpful 🙂 Feel free to reach out if you need more help!

Hi Manjot, we have 4 rooms to let, please contact AGT Property Management (You would find them on spareroom.com or on google maps). I live in Peterborough, and in order to find jobs, Indeed, and google jobs are the best. You could always try McDonalds and Tesco as they hire regularly.
