and when did I claim to 'hate' the university? If you don't warm to people who aren't quite certain about what is arguably the most niche university in the country, then I guess it really is not the place for me.
How does it being niche have anything to with whether people do drugs or not? I chose all the places on my UCAS because of the quality of course, then quality of university then location and other things. Whether or not people did drugs there was not particularly high up on my list of concerns about the university in question.

Tell you what, why not just come on an open day? In fact, come on this open day : Wednesday 4th February. That's pretty soon. You can never base an opinion on somewhere you've never seen, so ... See you there.
i'm quite glad i read this thread not that its completely changed my mind on going or anything, but i read a little review about SOAS and it basically said that students were more interested in debates in their rooms rather than going out on the lash. i get the impression that its some kind of magical place that'll transform you into this amazing open-minded person, which sounds nice. but to be honest the social side of university is very important to me.. needs some serious thought

I'm into all that 'going out on the lash' stuff, so I'll be doing that, and I'm sure others will too

I always got the impression that SOAS student went out on the lash and then debated politics while drunk. But then what do I know? I've only been at SOAS for the last four years...

Put it this way; I know **** all about politics, I've never had a debate that was more serious than Zac Efron, and I get plenty drunk between 2-4 times a week.
I generally go out and get drunk to drown the pain from studying Arabic. Like tonight. I'm feeling rather suicidal about my degree...Bahhh I want to cry right now so I go to .... Mahiki Mondaysss for £2 shots and Polynesian cocktails.
Language degrees are always easier to cope with when drunk. I've been drunk trying to argue about Japanese linguistics. I hate writing the essays, but the debate was good... I think... Yeah, I find that a lot of the arguing is generally performed in varying stages of inebriety. Unless you bump into a particular member of the Socialist party during Freshers Week, or at the UGM, or somewhere, in which case you don't argue, you just try to escape with your integrity
ah okay, i'd just read a few odd experiences i guess lol dont get the wrong impression, im not too concerned about getting drunk during my time at uni - i just needed someone to confirm that there was actually a good social life
