Help, student loan

Hi,

I will be studying Nursing at King’s College London starting in September 2026.

I may not be eligible for Student Finance because I have not lived in the UK for three continuous years due to a temporary absence. Because of this, I am unsure what funding options might still be available to me

Could any one please advise whether my situation might make me eligible for the SFE or any bursaries, scholarships, or alternative support offered by the university?

Thank you

Hi there,

Where have you been living for the last 3 years and when do you plan to move to the UK? How old are you and what nationality are you?

Thanks, Drew

Hi,

I am 19 years old. I was in the Netherlands only for work, and I was also in Poland temporarily for work. I have been outside the UK for about one year, but I continued visiting because my family lives there. My nationality is Polish, and I plan to return to the UK in January 2026, as I recieved an offer to study at King’s College London.

Thank you

Hi there,

Do you have pre-settled or settled status in the UK? Would you have evidence that you could provide to show your break in residency was only temporary?

Thanks, Drew

Hi,

I hold Settled Status in the United Kingdom. I was living in the UK 12 years before I went abroad and the UK has always been my permanent home.

I was outside the UK because of work. I do not have evidence to show that the stay abroad was temporary, but I can provide some documents that confirm my employment during that time. My reason for leaving the UK was only for work, not for a permanent move, and I plan to go back to UK In January.

Thank you

Hi,

I don’t have a temporary work contract or a temporary work visa, but I do have a contract of mandate (umowa zlecenie) in Poland. I also have evidence of my payslips from the Netherlands.

Thank you

Hi there,

Acceptable Evidence

A letter from the employer on headed paper confirming temporary employment including dates

A contract from the employer that clearly shows the employment is of a temporary nature

Temporary visas or work permits

Where evidence has been requested to show that the student maintained a connection to the UK documents such as bank statements and utility bills can be reviewed.

Thanks, Drew

Hi
Given my circumstances, would I be eligible for any financial support if I were to submit an application for Student Loans next year.

Thank you very much for your guidance.

Hi there,

If you are able to provide the evidence I have suggest to show that your break in residency was only temporary then you may be eligible for funding.

Thanks, Drew

Hi,

Sorry to bother, and I hope I’m not being too persistent l’m feeling a bit anxious about this, but it’s really important .

I was living in the UK before I left to Poland for one year to gain work experience in healthcare and to work temporarily. My stay in Poland was never permanent, and I always intended to return to the UK. I visited the UK this year and I am planning to fully return in January, as I have received my offer to study Nursing at King’s College London. My absence from the UK was only temporary for professional development purposes to get ready for university and the UK has remained my main home.

Could you please confirm whether this temporary absence will affect my eligibility for the tuition fee loan and the maintenance loan? Thank you for your help

Hi there, having a temporary absence on the application may affect a students the eligibility for support.
But, if the relevant evidences (advised by Drew previously) are submitted and show that your break in residency was only of a temporary nature, then you can be eligible for funding. This will depend on the evidences submitted however.
Thanks, Stephen
