BSc Radiography at Teeside Uni

I’m a very mature student looking to study Radiography at Teeside Sept 26.
Can anyone that has experience of studying here recently comment on the following:

1) Is there scope to work part time for the whole 3 years?

2) How many weeks per year is spent on placement? Would I still be able to work while on Placement?

3) Are the placements generally at James Cook or do some people go a bit further out?

I have a mortgage and the usual outgoings and also a son that will be starting Uni at the same time so I just need the brutal truth of if it’s going to work or not.

Thank you

Most students find that limited part-time work is possible, but it can’t be guaranteed for all three years. Placements often run full-time hours.
Placement length varies by university, but it’s usually around 30–36 weeks a year across the course. During placements, working alongside shifts can be very challenging.
Placement locations also depend on the university’s partner trusts, so students may be placed at the main site or further out.
It’s definitely worth speaking directly with Teesside’s admissions or programme team; they can give you exact placement patterns and workload so you can see if it fits your situation.

Contact the department at Teesside and ask for a copy of this year's timetable. It will give you a good idea of what to expect.

When allocating placements, unis will often consider mitigating circumstances if you need to be at a certain location.

Are you aware of the additional financial support you could be entitled to from the NHS Learning Support Fund?

Thank you for the reply! Yes I do know about the LSF but it’s just not enough unfortunately. My mortgage alone is £900! I think I will leave it for now and consider again in the future if my circumstances change.

Yeah…I think I’ve come to realise this is probably not going to work out for me! Thank you for your advice 😊

Hi there,
If you can, come along to one of our open days in January:
Saturday 10 January
Saturday 20 January

There will be teaching staff there and also staff from the student support section who will be able to help with advice on the financial side of things. They will be able to advise or direct you on where to get the best support and help to see if studying a degree is possible for you.
Hope that helps and good luck with it all 🙂
