am i too late to start prepping to resit 1 alevel privately?

i want to retake a-level english literature through a private exam centre on my current gap year after getting a B in the 2025 exams. i was achieving As and A*s on past essays and questions with ease in sixth form, i just fumbled on a question in the actual exam. I haven’t started rereading my texts yet (2 novels, 2 plays and 10+ poems). would I be able to cover all content thoroughly by the exam time in march?

i have been super unmotivated and might find it difficult to stick to a revision schedule now that i’m not obligated to be in education but i would really love to achieve an A/A* this time around as English literature is my passion subject.

any advice is welcomed 🙏🙏🙏

Why do you say March?

I understand how you feel because I'm just about to start A-Level classical civilisation which has a number of books to read - I don't know if its mad to start now and revise in time for summer 2026 exams, but I'm motivated to do it. I can only try.

It's up to you how much you want to do it and if you're ready to pick up the subject again.

Hi,

It’s definitely not too late to start preparing for your exams, especially since you’ve already shown you can achieve top grades in English Literature.

I’d recommend making a flexible timetable that breaks down your texts, novels, plays and poems into manageable chunks while leaving some time to catch up if needed. Start by re-reading and annotating key scenes, themes and quotes, creating mind maps or other resources, and then practising past papers and essay questions under timed conditions. Since you’re already familiar with most of the content, you can focus on refining your exam technique and strengthening your analysis.

Setting small daily goals and rewarding yourself when you meet them can help keep you motivated. You could also use a study buddy, tutor, or apps to support your learning and try changing your study settings, e.g. libraries, cafes or different rooms at home. With consistent effort and a clear plan, you should be able to cover all the content thoroughly before the exams.

Hope this helps, and good luck with your studies!
