Why I Chose Law with Business

Hi everyone,
As a current student ambassador for the University of Law, I often get asked why I chose the LLB (Hons) Law with Business degree. Here’s a bit about my journey and why I think this course is such a great option for anyone interested in both law and business.

How I Came to My Decision
During my A-levels, I was drawn to subjects that involved critical thinking and problem-solving, which naturally led me to consider Law. At the same time, I had a strong interest in business and understanding how companies operate. I realised that studying both together would give me a unique skill set and open a variety of career paths. The LLB (Hons) Law with Business at ULaw stood out because it combines comprehensive legal knowledge with practical business insights, allowing me to explore both areas in depth.

Why I Picked Manchester Campus
I chose the Manchester campus for several reasons:

Vibrant City Life and employment hub: Manchester is a dynamic city with lots of networking opportunities, internships, firm headquarters, competitions, and events that complement academic and social life.

Modern Facilities: The campus is small but well-equipped, having a computer library, and is located in the centre of the city, giving me access to a variety of facilities such as city towers, grocers, cafés, city libraries, etc. I can study, work, hang out and do everything else I need there.

Supportive Community: The student community in Manchester is welcoming, and being part of a smaller campus makes it easy to access support and guidance from staff and fellow students.

Course Highlights
The course itself is designed to provide practical experience alongside academic learning. The University of Law ensures students develop skills that are directly applicable in the workplace, via a variety of opportunities such as their ‘work ready award’ and having continuous opportunities throughout the year to go to insight evenings and firm fairs. You can check out the full course details here:

Choosing the right degree is a big decision, and for me, Law with Business at The University of Law Manchester was the perfect choice. It equips students with a strong foundation in law while providing business knowledge that sets them apart in today’s competitive job market. If you’re considering a career that bridges law and business, I’d recommend giving this course a look.

Hi there,

I'm so pleased that I have came across your post and that you happen to be a University of Law student ambassador.

I'm currently thinking of enrolling on ULaw's LLB (Hons) (online).
However, to be honest, while I've been trying to find out information about the course, communication has been inconsistent and frankly it's starting to frustrate me a little.

I'm in contact with a Programme Consultant as well as the Programme and Student Lead (who is also a senior lecturer) and they're both contradicting each other.

For example, I prefer to learn with hard copy course material (e.g. books).
I asked the Programme Consultant if I would have access to hard copy material and he explained that everything is online for the LLB online programme but I could in principle purchase hard copy material, at an additional cost.
I then asked the same question of the Programme and Student Lead, who said that hard copy material doesn't exist at all and I won't be able to do the course that way.

The image above from the webpage of the (in person) LLB programme indicates that textbooks DO exist, so can I just purchase the books that students are given for the in person programme?
Presumably the in person and online courses cover the same modules.

So far it has proven impossible to get a straightforward answer to a simple question from the University of Law 🙄

Hi @mathperson

Thanks for your question about using hard-copy books for the Online LLB.

ULaw does not produce its own LLB textbooks. All core learning materials are provided within the online modules, so you will have everything you need for study and assessment.

That being said each unit also includes recommended reading to support your learning, which you may choose to purchase in hard copy. Examples include:

The Rule of Law by Tom Bingham

Eve Was Shamed by Helena Kennedy

Tomorrow’s Lawyer by Richard Susskind

The Futures of the Professions by David and Richard Susskind

Once you enrol and have access to our learning platform ELITE all the materials and any additional reading will be listed there.

I hope that helps.
