I hate maths

I am however many weeks into Year 12 and oh my god I have never not been able to understand a subject like this. I literally begged my teacher to let me take it for A level if I didn't meet the requirements but I did anyway on results day (I had other issues going on during y11) and now I'm actually embarrassed because my teachers are just watching me struggle so hard when my class is SO SMART
I cannot revise it for the life of me because I have no clue what's going on every time I ask for help they just waffle and walk away and I genuinely just sit on my laptop and play Minecraft during my maths lessons because I have lost all hope
my target grade is an A* and I'm working at a C predicted a B
I wish I could get an A* but I could settle for an A so please someone help me!!!!!
Also don't get me started on mechanics I can tell you with full confidence I cannot bag a mark on a SINGLE mechanics question on any paper and we've already finished that part of the course
I'm genuinely delusional because I thought this A level would be a breeze I got like almost full marks on our entry test the first topics were light work and then I literally don't remember any time passing and now nothing makes sense
I would drop somehow maybe switch to French it but I got into the Cambridge STEM smart which requires maths and it looks like such a good programme I want to stay in it even if I have to sacrifice my wellbeing
Sorry for the rant anyone I'm just actually losing my mind I have a test tomorrow and I promised myself I would lock in this weekend and I literally have revised for an hour max

Hey @sillysod,

A-Level Maths can be difficult, so it's understandable why you've been having issues with the content so far. Nonetheless, it's unlikely that your grade will improve if you continually zone out during lessons and can't find the motivation to revise.

If you're struggling with the material and aren't find your teachers particularly helpful, I'd recommend watching A-Level Maths revision videos on YouTube/relevant sites to see if they can explain the concepts clearer. Any available revision guides/textbooks from your exam board might also be useful.

Try to create a schedule for maths revision - even if it's only an hour or so every evening, you should start to see gradual improvements the more regularly you revise. It can be difficult to motivate yourself to study a subject you don't fully understand - but unfortunately it's the only way to finally begin understanding it!

Best of luck - I know it's tough, but you can do it. 🙂
