Hi there,
I’d personally recommend the MacBook Air M2 based on the preferences you’ve mentioned. I currently use the M4 MacBook Air myself, which I bought from John Lewis about a month ago, and so far it’s been great — definitely feels like a worthwhile long-term investment. When I last checked, it was only around £200 more than the M2.
I bought the M4 for my PhD, and honestly, I wish I’d had a Mac during my bachelor’s and master’s degrees. It runs everything I need for my studies without any issues. If you’re unsure what apps/software your course will require, it’s always worth double-checking with your uni.
The 13-inch size has been perfect for carrying around campus — it’s incredibly lightweight, easy to pack, and I personally wouldn’t want to go much bigger when commuting or moving between lectures. The battery life has also been consistently reliable throughout long study days.
I haven’t personally used the Dell model you've mentioned, so I can’t comment on that one — but I can definitely recommend the MacBook Air based on my experience so far.
