Pharmaceutical science or Diagnostic Radiography

Hello guys
I am at a dilemma, I don't know which to pick between those two. It's such an important decision, and l want other people's advice and experience on what l should do. Things like longevity and redundancy quite matter, and it's so that l don't make a mistake l will regret further on. Would you such l pick the degree or get an apprenticeship?
Help!!

Do you have any shadowing experience with a DR and/or pharmacist? Which did you prefer?

Are you taking chemistry and biology A levels?

Hiya @Snowball56899

It can definitely be tough deciding between two careers, but at the end of the day, it's your decision, which career you feel you are suited to best. Hopefully, it's a career you will be spending many years in, so you must be passionate about it!

They are definitely two different careers, with diagnostic radiography being more physics, hands-on and patient-facing, whereas pharmaceutical science is more biology, lab-based, etc.

From what I've found from a quick Google search, the pharmaceutical industry has a slightly lower turnover rate than diagnostic radiography. However, this could be a result of many factors, like career progression, etc. Due to the demand for both careers, they both seem to be pretty stable jobs.

I'd definitely recommend researching both careers and the qualities attributed to each; see if you resonate with any of these qualities. You should also try, if possible, to speak to someone working within each career and get an idea of what an average day looks like for them. I know places can be limited, but if you can get a shadow shift, this would give you an even better understanding of each job.

Regarding the university vs apprenticeship decision, the university degree route seems to be the typical pathway into diagnostic radiography. In pharmaceutical science, there may be limited apprenticeship places available, but you should definitely look into this more.

Best of luck making your decision. I know it's a tough one. There's no rush. If by the time you have to apply, you still aren't ready, there's always next year.

Hi @Snowball56899. Make sure not to panic. Hopefully you will choose something you are happy with in the end. My advice would be if you want broader career options then its best to choose a degree. If you want practical experience and you would like to earn straight away by avoiding debt later on then apprenticeships would be good for you to do. In a simple straightforward answer if you know exactly what job you would like then choose apprenticeships and if you want broader options then choose a degree. Also speak to family and friends or ant relatives you know who have done either a degree apprenticeships and ask them about their experience. Also have a look online on different forums where people have spoken about their previous experience.
