Aerospace Engineering Applying Help (Imperial/Bath)

I am predicted A*A*A in physics maths and chemistry and EPQ (no predicted) and I want to apply to aerospace engineering course maybe in Sheffield Southampton Bristol. Two other ones are going to be safer options. Is it worth a shot going for Imperial aeronautical course/Bath aerospace? I am also interested in material science and engineering in Imperial, is it practical to apply for two engineering courses from Imperial?

My personal statement is not too bad - have done a couple of work experiences and a couple online courses e.g. COMPOS from oxford, a coding course from Stanford and some aerospace engineering courses from MIT, bronze in cambridge chemistry challenge, smc, physics olympiad and chemistry olympiad. My EPQ is on MH370 (the plane that disappeared) but we have not got predicted grades on this. I have also got grade 8 piano and drums and other random stuff.

Thanks for the help!

Hi there!

Great to hear you're thinking ahead about your choices for Mechanical/Aerospace engineering and that you're considering Bath as an option.

To answer your question, yes you can apply for more than one course at the same uni, so if you wanted to apply for both Aerospace and Materials Science at Imperial, you can do so, just remember it will take up 2 UCAS choices.

Its important to bear in mind that Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering courses are very popular across the board, and particularly here at Bath where it is one of our most competitive courses. Whilst you have an excellent academic profile which we would consider, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to make offers to everyone who meets or even exceeds our entry requirements due to its popularity. This is a page newly-published you might find helpful: Admissions for A level students for Mechanical Engineering (includes Aerospace).

With that in mind, what unis were you considering for a safer/insurance options? I'd recommend to someone predicted A*A*A to opt for one asking for around AAA to give you a bit of a safety net.

Hoping this helps a bit, best of luck 🙂

Yeah I got similar predicted grades as you (A*A*AA + A in EPQ) and am also applying to aero. I’ve applied for Bath, Southampton, Sheffield, Manchester and Birmingham. I’ve already got offers from Sheffield and Southampton. My opinion is don’t apply to 2 courses from an ultra-competitive uni like Imperial. If ur also interested in materials science, go for something slightly easier to get into for that course. However, you could go for it if you’ve also got 1-2 safeties with around AAA-AAB requirements (which is why I put Birmingham) just so you can afford to have 2 very ambitious options (2 imperials). Good Luck!

I was thinking of applying two imperials is because for material science and engineering the entry requirements are AAA instead of A*A*A for aero, but I’m just not sure if it’s worth it applying for two imperial. I also know that bath is crazy competitive i think I’ve got slim chance though.

I was considering Birmingham as my safe choice for AAB, not sure about any unis with AAA though
