pharmacy personal statement help

Ive been reading lots of successful applicants personal statement from russel group unis (mainly uni of manchester) and almost all of them include them doing work experience at a community pharmacy or shadowing a hospital pharmacist. Do they require this? im scared that i wont be accepted as i do not have phramacy specific work experience, but right now i have done hospital volunteering, care home volunteering and ive done a work experience placement at specsavers. will they still accept me if i do lots of reflections? i have also done virtual work experience for pharmacy. please help!

Hi there!

I'm currently a pharmacy student at the University of Bath.

It's true that a lot personal statement contain experiences within the different sectors of pharmacy however it isn't a requirement. The admission tutors will look at your overall application and also through interviews.

It's great to hear you have had other experiences and you can emphasise the learning you have gained in the different areas and being able to reflect on the experiences is important.

When I applied, I didn't have a lot of direct pharmacy experience but I had other areas in which I could reflect on and gave me reasons of why I wanted to study pharmacy.

So please don't panic about your lack of pharmacy experience. If you can show your genuine insight into the role of a pharmacist and why you want to study pharmacy, then you're in a great position.

I hope that helps!

All the best

ive gotten an offer from the university of manchester and i had no pharmacy work experience and i didnt do any shadowing. As long as you have done extracurricular or super curriculars that u can apply to pharmacy you will be fine. I think you can definitely apply some of the work experiences you have done to the GPHC standards. Good luck!

Hi,

While some people may include pharmacy specific work experience in their personal statements, it isn’t a mandatory requirement. Universities understand that not everyone is able to obtain pharmacy specific experience. What matters most is how you reflect on your experiences / extracurriculars, which could include linking them to GPhC standards.

Hope this helps,
