Gold Crest Award

Hey, I am y12 in Northern Ireland (last year of GCSEs) and I have a pretty poor extracurricular list… Some research has suggested that a gold crest award would be beneficial for me. I am considering going into finance/accounting/that kind of industry. Will this award be beneficial for this sector? I was considering a topic based on economics because I saw that is accepted on the crest award website. does anyone have any topic ideas or know how to get a mentor? Thanks x

Hi,
I took a slightly different route because I studied engineering, but this might still help you.

•

During my A levels, I did a Gold CREST Award as part of some work experience with an engineering company.

•

I’d definitely recommend it – I put both the work experience and the Gold CREST Award on my CV and it helped me secure a degree apprenticeship.

•

Mine was organised through my college, so it’s worth asking a teacher or careers advisor if they can help you find something similar.

Extra-curricular awards and projects like a CREST Award look great on university and degree apprenticeship applications – even for areas like finance or banking, not just engineering.
