Help with uni choices

Hi, I have applied to bath, nottingham, sheffield, leeds and newcastle.

I am thinking of swapping either bath or leeds for edingburgh.
Im applying for chem eng btw.
Bath has the highest grade requirments and leeds is less recognised for my course. But leeds has a better program for a year abroad which I really want and bath is good for placements. I like the flexibility in the edingburgh course and the fact it includes biochemical engineering in second yr, but I have heard that he teaching quality there isnt the best and a lot of lecturers aren't bothered. Does anyone go to these unis and can give me some advice. I have 6 days left to make the switch.
Thank youu

I don't have direct expertise but I suggest that you consider having a balance between academics and social life. I have heard that Bath can be a bit quiet as a place.

If you are flexible, I’d suggest considering Manchester and Surrey.
Hi! I’m a student ambassador from the University of Bath 😊

I don’t do chem eng myself but I have a few friends that do. I can also give a bit of insight into Bath from a current-student perspective.

Bath’s Chemical Engineering department is well-regarded academically, but the biggest plus is the amount of support there is given to the students. My friends have spoken very highly of the teaching quality and support, as well as regular feedback. Also, I suggest looking on this website for more details on the course, how you’re assessed, and the content of optional modules: https://www.bath.ac.uk/catalogues/2025-2026/
If placements matter to you, Bath is honestly one of the strongest choices. Our placement team is full-time, very active, and has long-standing links with big companies. A lot of the people I’ve met who do chem eng got to work at well-known places and thoroughly enjoyed their placement year.

Have you visited your unis yet? It’s always worth having a think about which place makes you feel better. Consider whether you’d prefer a campus/city uni, how much you care about nightlife, consider societies you’d want to join, even consider the possible bursaries/scholarships available.

Whatever you decide, we wish you all the best! Good luck!

Hi! I’m applying for bath and edi for engineering and recently got my Edinburgh offer, waiting for bath!! I don’t know much about Leeds but when I went to the bath and edi open days they really stood out to me as some incredible unis and I fell in love with them. I’d say definitely go for bath and Edinburgh because they’re both very well regarded schools with amazing facilities, and I’ve heard some negatives about Edinburgh’s student mental health facilities and stuff but I don’t really care about that too much so I guess it’s just personal choice for that part. Good luck!
