Imperial Mechanical Engineering

I have A*A*A*A in maths, further maths, chemistry and physics. Are these competitive for mech eng at imperial. Im sitting the esat in jan and looking to get a 6.5-7.5.

Yes, these are competitive, but I suspect you know that already (these are literally the best grades you can have bar physics?)
These grades are meaningless if you don't score well on the ESAT though, so full focus on that.

Hi yeah it was more a question of whether the A in physics would make my application less competitive

yes 100% would recommend you apply if you get at least a 6.5 you should be good enough to get an interview and because you are doing 4 a-levels the min required is lowered to A*AAA (but I would say you need a minimum of A*A*AA to get considered) an A in physics is slightly concerning, but the A* in further maths should be enough to counteract that

Hi thanks for the response , do you know how cutthroat imperial interviews are? Like if you get on are u likely to be made an offer or do they drastically effect your application

Nah I only know bc some of my friends are applying there

Good luck though

Do you think I a doomed with a 4.6 in the ESAT - I am predicted A*A*A*A in FM, Maths, Chem, and physics and I have 5 weeks of related work experience among a few other extra curriculars. Do you think my ESAT will drag me down?

I mean it’s possible but unlikely, maybe take a year out and do ESAT again i would apply anyway, as if you think about it you have another 4 options, so might as well take a risk with one of them, just make sure you apply to at least 2 safe unis

I have 3 offers so far (likely will end up with 4) so not going to take a gap year as it is not that deep fundamentally. Currently applying for degree apprenticeships as well

4.6 Esat isnt even bad. The internationals inflate the boundaries so if your home your chances arent low

Nah it’s still pretty low bc they are more likely to take international students bc they give the uni more money

Chances are pretty low still - but hey I have to try to know. Amused that you think I am a guy.

I have 4 A* at A level 2025. I took a gap year and my ESAT score is 5.1 (very low to what I was expecting). I haven't had an interview call yet and I am concerned if I will get an interview. Any idea if I can get an interview call?
Last year my ESAT score was 5.4 and I know people with ESAT score of 3 got in.

I mean your ESAT score is better than average (4.5) so you prob do stand a chance of getting interviewed. Did u say that people with a 3 on the ESAT got into imperial mech eng?

Do you know when they are doing/inviting for interviews?
