Guide to Preparing for Midwifery Interviews

Hi everyone! I’m a 3rd year student midwife and I remember what its like to prepare for my interview. Here’s a general guide to help you feel more confident and prepared for interview preparation. Hopefully this helps your nerves and not knowing how to get ready for your interview. A quick disclaimer, this is post will NOT discuss actual interview questions, this post is to inform you how to prepare for your interview. What your interviewers are most likely looking for They’re not testing clinical knowledge, they want to see:

Genuine motivation and understanding of why midwifery is right for you

Awareness of the role, including challenges, teamwork, safeguarding and emotional resilience

Communication and reflection which are two skills you’ll rely on constantly during your training and beyond.

If there was a piece to read before your interview make sure you have read it and understood themes, importance of it.

Know your interview format Different universities use:

Panel interviews a structured conversation

Short times stations

Group interviews to observe team work and communication skills

What experiences made you apply?

What qualities does a midwife need?

What does person centred care mean to you?

Speaking out loud helps to boast confidence

Prepare 1-2 thoughtful questions to ask at the end

Look presentable, arrive on time, prepare your documents if required
