CLSG sixth form

hi guys! im thinking of joining city girls sixth form next year though i've gotten offers from city, nlcs, highgate and am currently at shhs.

my parents are quite adamant on me going to city as they seem to be very good at getting the students into stem uni courses and top unis whereas highgate gets very similar grades but the unis dont seem to be as stem focused or as highly ranked.

obvs nlcs is the obvious choice academically but its quite far and i've heard quite a lot of negative things about the enviroment.

I prefer highgate but i think im going to end up going to City because of my parents, does anyone have any info on either sixth forms, departemnts, social lives and like overall enviroments?

im taking maths, fm, cs and economics and the overall opinion seems to be that highgate has a more fun and social environment and im sure i'd be happier socially but academically city prob is the best choice.

so yeah if anything knows anything about either school pls lmk!! xx

I go to city so I could give a bit of insight to what it’s like going there as a new student! For context I do maths, fm, physics, chem & an epq.

Maths & fm has a bit of a weird structure in comparison to other schls as we learn the entire a level reg maths curriculum in y12 & then start fm in y13. They do this so allow you to sit the a level early if you want to.

Econ & cs are really popular amongst the people who take them, so as long as you genuinely like what you’re studying, you’ll probably fit right in.

Ofc, if you don’t want to continue doing 1 of the a levels, you’re able to drop from November onwards (though most would wait until jan assessments to decide).

The teachers tend to be rlly passionate about what they’re teaching & can often go on a tangent from what we’re learning to extra stuff, but I’d say this is quite good in the sense you get a wider understanding outside of the spec of what you’re learning.

The people who come to city r genuinely some of the kindest people I’ve ever met. Everyone is so welcoming & eager to learn more about the externals, partly because the vast majority have been there since y7 or even before them. I hang out w my friends quite often & from what I’ve heard I’m not an anomaly in that sense, so social lives tend to be really good here.

Also, the CLUBS!!! In sixth form you have the option to run your own club on literally anything (ofc as long as it isn’t inappropriate). Rn I’m in ≈5 clubs just out of pure interest, 2 which aren’t academic or related to my subjects in any way.

I hope this helps & lmk if you have any other specific questions

Hi! Sorry to jump on this thread but your advice has been rlly helpful and I’ve accepted my offer from city. I was just wondering 1) do clubs take up a lot of time? I can see myself joining 7 clubs and maybe the choir as well lol 😭 2) would it be useful to start studying some of the content now, so idk i have a better grip on the basics at least and aren’t burdened with extra info ? and 3) do bursary students get to go to all the trips, or like only specific ones? tysmm xx

They vast majority of clubs aren’t rlly that long (most are during 1st/2nd half of lunch), so you can definitely go to quite a lot of them. Tbh I think the longest a club can get is 1 1/2 hrs if it’s afterschool (for me I go to debate), so it’s up to you whether you want to make those kind of commitments or not.
Icl, I think it’s better for now to focus on your GCSEs to ensure you get those top grades, like if you already understand everything you can maybe start to learn some of the a level content, but the vast majority of people there are learning it in-lesson, so don’t feel like you have to yk?
Bursary students get to go on trips mandatory to their subjects or year group for free (e.g: maths trip, go ape trip). You’d have to pay (almost) in full for “fun” trips (e.g:skiing trips) if you have a full bursary.

Hoped this helped & lmk if you have any other questions
